I plan to invite my niece (29 years old) over for a movie marathon night this week complete with popcorn, sodas, etc. and need recommendations. We last watched "Broken Bridges" which was right up her alley! I loved it too!

Greatly appreciative for any help and advice:)

TIA:)

I always thought that Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias were considered "chick flicks". But then again, what do I know? I'm a guy. ;-)

Hello Adobe! I'm sneaking in over here from the Cooking Forum and we recently had a chick flick discussion over there and here were my personal recommendations. (If you and/or she enjoy food, restaurants and/or cooking - I would very highly recommend Mostly Martha - its a German film with subtitles, but honest-to-pete, you wouldn't be disappointed - its just a wonderful, funny, heartwarming, romantic film!)

The Devil Wears Prada
In Her Shoes
Calendar Girls
Mighty Aphrodite
Its About A Boy
Evelyn
Somethings Gotta Give
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Mostly Martha
Monsoon Wedding

I hadn't heard of "Mostly Martha" but going to check that one out for sure! TY! Planning to jot all of these down and see which ones I can get my hands on. The Devil Wears Prada was well worth the watch, in fact i own it and believe it's one she wants to see, so we'll do that for sure! Thanks for the reminder:) Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias are both good ones too! I haven't seen them for quite some time, so maybe we'll rewatch them as well! In Her Shoes is another I'd like to see! I'm thinking that we'll have to have more than one movie night here...LOL! Oh yes, and Raising Helen! Wonderful choice!! You guys/gals are so good! TY TY!

Ok, I don't know if anyone's ever seen it but I'd also recommend the 1976 made for TV version of "Lady of the Camellias". Or, actually, any of the remakes based on the Dumas fils novel of the same name.

I always thought I'd love to do a chick flick night and include the following two movies:
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" - This is the 1992 movie with Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Luke Perry et al, not the television series which followed. I've never been a fan of horror films, or teen films, but I continue to find this movie, with Swanson as a spoiled Valley Girl fighting vampires, absolutely hilarious.
"Dick" with Kirsten Dunst and Arlene Lorenzo (Michelle Williams). "Dick" is set during the Watergate era, with wonderful and very funny performances by all the cast. But I don't think you had to grow up in that era or care about the politics to appreciate this move. The idea that the fate of the presidency and country hangs on the opinions and actions of two little girls, who accidentally become enmeshed with the Watergate conspirators is hilarious. And Kirsten Dunst's pre-Spiderman performance is excellent.
I always thought either or both of these would be the basis of a great 'Chick Flick' night at the movies, because the heroines are active and effect the turn of events. Love does happen, at least in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but is only part of the whole.

I LOVE Witches of Eastwick and have seen it several times, but not sure she has that opportunity, so will add it to the list as well! TY!

Pride and Predjudice with Kiera Knightly.. I love this movie..

I just watched North and South.. It was wonderful too.. It is a BBC production, and I checked it out from my library system.. Soo good..

Wives and Daughters is also a great BBC/Masterpiece Theatre miniseries that I enjoyed. Also from the library...

Here is a link that might be useful: North and South
