| On the other thread I ws actually just wishing Clairabelle luck with her jazz rehearsal/concert...... but maybe a photo or quote "quick quiz" might be a fun lightning round game too?
Maybe the puzzle solver, along w/ the answer, could give a brief recollection of the film? Cast, quotes, songs, favorite moments, context... whatever comes to mind? Worth a try...

| Looks like Faye Dunaway in Mommy Dearest. How does one post a pix? |
| You can search google images for an image you want to post, then go to "see full size image", copy the image location then write this little piece of code including the copied image location (take the spaces out before and after the < >. < img src="copy paste an image url here" > Oh and images should probably be smallish, say smaller than 300 x 300. It tells you how big they are in the google images search results. Maybe this is too tech-ie? We could always just do quotes. Let me know if you need any help or if my directions are unclear. |
| Scary picture... Is it Mommy Dearest? I've not seen that one. I guess Clairabelle's up, but I'll put one up in the meantime. Sorry for the size, but it's the only one I could find. The verbal clue is: 'Periwinkle Blue!' |
| Snatch! ;-) |
| Indeed! "He wants a caravan for his Ma" |

| Close enough -- it's King Kong vs. Godzilla! (ok, someone find another picture ......) |
Here is a link that might be useful: King Kong vs Godzilla

Do we need a caption for this one? "You better watch out, McPherson, or you'll end up in a psychiatric ward. I don't think they've ever had a patient who fell in love with a corpse." |

"Spanish or English Dad!" |
| Totally clueless, here! I don't even recognise any of the actors... |

| Well I know that is a very young Kirk Douglas-and is that Barbara Stanwyck-anyway I have no clue about the title ! Pat |
- Posted by paula_in_pa (My Page) on Sun, Jun 3, 07 at 18:50
| Tortilla Soup it is kwoods, wahoo! I know the actors in this one too, but without a playlist I'm sunk. |
| Well, it sure don't look like "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"! ;-) |
| Well, I'll hazard a guess - Ace in the Hole? It's the only Kirk Douglas from that period that comes to mind, but I don't think it actually has Stanwyck in it... |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Mon, Jun 4, 07 at 15:04
| Can't for the life of me remember the title, but I think the movie was about a strong-willed, domineering woman (Stanwyck) with a secret about a murder, something like that... |
| Close enough Clairabelle! The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and yes that's Stanwick. A good one but certainly not a cat lovers film. |

| Oh c'mon now! It's easy given Paula's clue that preceded it. A quote for the frame above "It is in your nature to do one thing correctly: Tremble.". Here's another frame.
| Very appropriate follow-on, kwoods - Manhunter. Just saw clips from that, many years after watching the whole movie, and realised that it stars a young 'Gil Grissom'! |
| I recognize but can't place it. Destined to feel "stoopid" when someone gets it. |
| Here's another one from the same movie... |
| Aha! Blood Simple! Well, in that same vein.... kinda....
| Ummmm........ Rosemary's Baby?! (I honestly don't remember the movie but I DO remember the Mad magazine parody of it and that woman in the picture looks awfully a lot like Mia Farrow as caricatured by Mad) |
| Yes. Rosemary it is! |

| How about this - great special effects, way ahead of their time! |
| No..... Ok, tell me that isn't "Plan 9 From Outer Space"!!! (It was Ed Wood's magnum opus ....) |
| I could comply with your request, Dynomutt, and tell you that it isn't Plan 9, but I'd have to lie... |
Here's a possibly confusing one ...... |

| Klaus Kinski in Nosferatu? |
| SpongeBob? |
- Posted by woodnymph2 (My Page) on Mon, Jun 11, 07 at 12:18
| Can't be Bela Lugosi in Dracula. I dunno. |
| Clairabelle's VERY close! It ain't "Nosferatu" but it HAD something to do with that movie! :-) And it's a recent one ..... (it's not a remake) |
| You seem to like a lot of the same bizarre stuff that I do Dyno ;o) Shadow of the Vampire That pic is of Willem Dafoe believe it or not! Definitely a movie worth renting. Ummmm.... how 'bout
| First thought that popped into my head: Rasputin. No idea if there is a film about him and what it may be called. |
John Barrymore was the lead.... He had supernatural influence over the female lead. The title of the film is used today to indicate the same kind of influence. |
| Really? There's a movie named after the "kevorka" of Seinfeld fame? ;-) |
| Svengali? I don't know the film, but the name & concept comes from a novel by Gerald du Maurier (Daphne's dad). |
| Yes! You got it Anyanka.... the film and several others were from the novel. A very strange film one of my faves and worth watching. |

| You did good! I want to say Shane but I know it's not. Is that a young Roddy McDowell? |
| Clairabelle, I didn't have another picture up my sleeve (so to speak) and am more than happy to go with yours - although I have no idea what it is. |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Thu, Jun 14, 07 at 11:04
| Correct kwoods. Recognize the movie?
| Ummmm .... this doesn't look like a movie with monsters, explosions, gory death scenes, and other fun things. So, I'm EQUALLY lost. :-P |
| Gotta be.... How Green Was My Valley? Been a lo-ong time since I've seen that one. There's one other possiblity I can think of off hand. |

| And the free movie pass goes to kwoods! |
| Hee hee... I've always liked this one....
| Well, since it's Nicholas Cage and it looks like it's about vampires ........ I'd say it was Vampire's Kiss?! |
| Well........ yeah. Your turn Dyno! |
| Here's a classic (of sorts) ....

| Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or something |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Thu, Jun 14, 07 at 20:23
Why it's Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. That's a good one, complete with Lon Chaney and Bella Lugosi. |
| Citizen X! I remember seeing that movie a few years ago and being fascinated by it! It's about the hunt for the Russian serial killer Chikatilo or something like that. (Donald Sutherland in the Russian uniform gave it away. Well, that and the other guy in the picture -- I think he was the detective that cracked the case.) Ok, try this one on for size ......

| That's Bergman but can't tell if that's Cooper..... For Whom the Bell Tolls? |
| Yep -- that's Bergman AND that's Cooper! As for the movie, I think kwoods has it right. |

| You're BOTH right! lol |

| Want to try to post again, kwoods? We get no picture. |
| I can see the picture if I right-click and choose 'view image'. It looks like Japanese animation to me (which I loathe, by the way...). |
| Sorry! Here's a better image anyway.
| Oh well.... it's from Howl's Moving Castle. Miyazaki is worth looking into, even for those that might dislike "Japanese animation". Here's one...
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Mon, Jun 18, 07 at 16:30
| Don't be so hard on anima; some are truly magical! ET PHONE HOME! |
| It's not just the anime look I dislike; the stories also don't do a thing for me - what I've seen struck me as sentimental. My favourite animation is Tim Burton's and Aardman's stop motion stuff, much more textural and tactile, and more humorous. - Each to his own! No idea about your pic, Clairabelle - I don't even recognise the actress. |
| Japanese fimmakers view animation much differently than western filmmakers and audiences do. Like anything else there is tremendous diversity as well as quality within the genre. I think I might hazily remember the movie Clairabelle but I have no idea what the title is. |
| Hey is that Audrey Hepburn? She looks like a nun so I'll guess ....... Song of Bernadette?! |

Looks like it is Dyno's turn, but may I post? ![]() |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Wed, Jun 20, 07 at 9:34
| Correct, dynomutt. It's Jennifer Jones in the lead. Chris, Blade Runner!
| Is that really Audrey Hepburn (no, not the one above me - higher up!)? I wouldn't recognise her from that photo! The latest picture is from 'Blade Runner', I believe, although Rutger Hauer doesn't look his usual cool self... |
| For some reason, I'm thinking "A Place in the Sun", but the guy doesn't really look like Montgomery Clift. I can't even remember who the woman was played by anyway! |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Wed, Jun 20, 07 at 13:41
| Hint: Jennifer Jones, again! |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Thu, Jun 21, 07 at 22:17
| No takers? Here's another picture from same movie:
| The guy looks like William Holden - something with a "little tea house"? |
| Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing |
| William Holden and Jennifer Jones? Gotta be The Towering Inferno then! ;o) |

| The Others....... Boo!

| Klute? |

| Could that be "The Princess Bride?" |
| Here's a fiendish one for you. This woman is not an actress, and as far as I know this is her only cameo in a film, although she also made a guest appearance in my favourite tv series. Who is she, what is her other major contribution to a movie, and what film is the photo from?
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Sun, Jun 24, 07 at 10:31
| You were right about Klute, anyanka, but you've got me on this one! |
| Would that be Elaine May? |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Sun, Jun 24, 07 at 19:58
| Erin Brokovich? The real-life EB played a cameo as a waitress in the movie of the same name. |
| No, sorry! I'll give you another picture clue - this one is from a movie in which she did not appear in person, although she is 'present' throughout.
- Posted by paula_in_pa (My Page) on Mon, Jun 25, 07 at 15:51
| That's Magnolia, but the woman - ?? the director? |
| Ok, after some research, my guess is that the woman is Joanne Sellar, the producer of three of PT Anderson's movies. ?? (Of course, she could be the makeup artist for all I know! ;-) ) |
| 'Magnolia' is correct, but she's not the producer or the make-up artist. Here's another clue with a big giveaway in the picture. This one is from her guest appearance in my favourite tv show. The one I take my name from.
- Posted by paula_in_pa (My Page) on Tue, Jun 26, 07 at 11:33
| I have no idea who that is |

| No clue as well... |
| no clue here either "This one is from her guest appearance in my favourite tv show. The one I take my name from" that's no clue either what show would that be? |
- Posted by chris_in_the_valley (My Page) on Tue, Jun 26, 07 at 21:05
| The TV show is, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While I've seen every episode at least twice, I don't remember this character. Sorry, Anya. Too obscure for me. |
| She appeared as herself - the big clue is the microphone and guitar, which gives you an idea of her type of involvement with Magnolia. In the tiny cameo in the first photo, she was minus a toe, which had been posted to a wheelchair-bound man as proof of a faked abduction. [That should do it...] |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Wed, Jun 27, 07 at 11:34

| This isn't actually in the movie, just a promotional image. It illustrates the whole toe concept nicely, though. |
- Posted by clairabelle (My Page) on Wed, Jun 27, 07 at 15:37

| one of Clairabelle's favs... The Door in the Floor |
| Oops, I'd better give you the actual answers to my fiendish quiz - not that anyone's interested... The woman is Aimee Mann, one of your finest singer-songwriters. The film Magnolia was inspired by her songs, and the script was written around them to some extent. They also make up most of the soundtrack. - That was really the important part of my poser. The other film connection is for serious addicts only; I became one of those after watching Magnolia, loving the soundtrack, and subsequently buying all of Mann's albums. She appeared as herself in series 7 of Buffy, performing the song Pavlov's Bell, and had a tiny dishevelled cameo appearance in The Big Lebowski, playing the nihilist's girlfriend, minus a toe. |

| Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom -- he's on the rope bridge just before he chops the rope bridge and causes everyone (with the exception of himself, Short Round, and the singer-lady) to fall into the river full of crocodiles! Is that specific enough? ;-) (I saw the movie again just a few weeks ago) |
