Freeze frame game?

Posted by kwoods (My Page) on

On the other thread I ws actually just wishing Clairabelle luck with her jazz rehearsal/concert...... but maybe a photo or quote "quick quiz" might be a fun lightning round game too?

Maybe the puzzle solver, along w/ the answer, could give a brief recollection of the film? Cast, quotes, songs, favorite moments, context... whatever comes to mind?

Worth a try...

"You love to make me hit you!"

Looks like Faye Dunaway in Mommy Dearest.
How does one post a pix?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You can search google images for an image you want to post, then go to "see full size image", copy the image location then write this little piece of code including the copied image location (take the spaces out before and after the < >.

< img src="copy paste an image url here" >

Oh and images should probably be smallish, say smaller than 300 x 300. It tells you how big they are in the google images search results. Maybe this is too tech-ie? We could always just do quotes. Let me know if you need any help or if my directions are unclear.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Scary picture... Is it Mommy Dearest? I've not seen that one.

I guess Clairabelle's up, but I'll put one up in the meantime. Sorry for the size, but it's the only one I could find. The verbal clue is: 'Periwinkle Blue!'

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Snatch!

;-)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Indeed!

"He wants a caravan for his Ma"

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?x

My turn! My turn!

img src=http://bp1.blogger.com/_Y5TwdoOLPTI/RaJWN4Kam_I/AAAAAAAAAas/4QJF7q nHUFA/s400/06konggojira1.jpg

Clue : ROARRR!!!!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?xy

Crap. I knew I forgot something ..........

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Will love to guess but you all throw in the pix for now...
King Kong meets Godzilla?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game? YEAH!

Close enough -- it's King Kong vs. Godzilla!

(ok, someone find another picture ......)

Here is a link that might be useful: King Kong vs Godzilla

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Do we need a caption for this one?

"You better watch out, McPherson, or you'll end up in a psychiatric ward. I don't think they've ever had a patient who fell in love with a corpse."

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Laura!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Do you know this one ?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Nope, but it must be fun, 'cause it's got a hen party in a kitchen LOL

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

An all out fight, then a make up

I should've added "Perhaps, perhaps, quizas"

"Spanish or English Dad!"

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Totally clueless, here! I don't even recognise any of the actors...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

no clue here... maybe Hector Elizondo in the 2nd pix?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

C'mon girls, you know it, I know you do! ;-)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

eerrrr....?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Raquel Welch would give it away everytime for me!

Tortilla Soup!

An easy one.... Don't cheat now!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Well I know that is a very young Kirk Douglas-and is that Barbara Stanwyck-anyway I have no clue about the title !

Pat

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Tortilla Soup it is kwoods, wahoo!
I know the actors in this one too, but without a playlist I'm sunk.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Well, it sure don't look like "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"!

;-)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Well, I'll hazard a guess - Ace in the Hole?

It's the only Kirk Douglas from that period that comes to mind, but I don't think it actually has Stanwyck in it...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Can't for the life of me remember the title, but I think the movie was about a strong-willed, domineering woman (Stanwyck) with a secret about a murder, something like that...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Close enough Clairabelle!

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and yes that's Stanwick.

A good one but certainly not a cat lovers film.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Jaws (they never got the bigger boat the sheriff wanted lol)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Silence of the Lambs (Sca-ary!)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Oh c'mon now! It's easy given Paula's clue that preceded it.

A quote for the frame above "It is in your nature to do one thing correctly: Tremble.".

Here's another frame.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Very appropriate follow-on, kwoods - Manhunter. Just saw clips from that, many years after watching the whole movie, and realised that it stars a young 'Gil Grissom'!

 o
New clue...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I recognize but can't place it. Destined to feel "stoopid" when someone gets it.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Here's another one from the same movie...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Aha!

Blood Simple!

Well, in that same vein.... kinda....

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ummmm........ Rosemary's Baby?! (I honestly don't remember the movie but I DO remember the Mad magazine parody of it and that woman in the picture looks awfully a lot like Mia Farrow as caricatured by Mad)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Yes. Rosemary it is!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Here's something easy .........

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!

Carrie

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Psycho
Someone else can pix...until I figure this out!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

How about this - great special effects, way ahead of their time!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

No..... Ok, tell me that isn't "Plan 9 From Outer Space"!!!

(It was Ed Wood's magnum opus ....)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I could comply with your request, Dynomutt, and tell you that it isn't Plan 9, but I'd have to lie...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Here's a possibly confusing one ......

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Klaus Kinski in Nosferatu?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

SpongeBob?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Can't be Bela Lugosi in Dracula. I dunno.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Clairabelle's VERY close! It ain't "Nosferatu" but it HAD something to do with that movie! :-)

And it's a recent one ..... (it's not a remake)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You seem to like a lot of the same bizarre stuff that I do Dyno ;o)

Shadow of the Vampire

That pic is of Willem Dafoe believe it or not! Definitely a movie worth renting.

Ummmm.... how 'bout

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

First thought that popped into my head: Rasputin. No idea if there is a film about him and what it may be called.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

John Barrymore was the lead.... He had supernatural influence over the female lead. The title of the film is used today to indicate the same kind of influence.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Really? There's a movie named after the "kevorka" of Seinfeld fame? ;-)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Svengali? I don't know the film, but the name & concept comes from a novel by Gerald du Maurier (Daphne's dad).

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Yes! You got it Anyanka.... the film and several others were from the novel. A very strange film one of my faves and worth watching.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Can I try one to see if I can post?

 o
re: yehhhhhhh!

Yeh! I'm proud of myself! :D
Go ahead, anyanka; I didn't want to take your turn.
Unless... I managed to stump y'all?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You did good!

I want to say Shane but I know it's not.

Is that a young Roddy McDowell?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Clairabelle, I didn't have another picture up my sleeve (so to speak) and am more than happy to go with yours - although I have no idea what it is.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Correct kwoods. Recognize the movie?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ummmm .... this doesn't look like a movie with monsters, explosions, gory death scenes, and other fun things. So, I'm EQUALLY lost. :-P

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Gotta be.... How Green Was My Valley?

Been a lo-ong time since I've seen that one. There's one other possiblity I can think of off hand.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

And the free movie pass goes to kwoods!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Hee hee...

I've always liked this one....

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Well, since it's Nicholas Cage and it looks like it's about vampires ........ I'd say it was Vampire's Kiss?!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Well........ yeah.

Your turn Dyno!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Here's a classic (of sorts) ....

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or something

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Why it's Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. That's a good one, complete with Lon Chaney and Bella Lugosi.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Citizen X! I remember seeing that movie a few years ago and being fascinated by it! It's about the hunt for the Russian serial killer Chikatilo or something like that.

(Donald Sutherland in the Russian uniform gave it away. Well, that and the other guy in the picture -- I think he was the detective that cracked the case.)

Ok, try this one on for size ......

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

SEVEN

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

That's Bergman but can't tell if that's Cooper.....

For Whom the Bell Tolls?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Yep -- that's Bergman AND that's Cooper! As for the movie, I think kwoods has it right.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You're BOTH right! lol

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Want to try to post again, kwoods? We get no picture.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I can see the picture if I right-click and choose 'view image'. It looks like Japanese animation to me (which I loathe, by the way...).

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Sorry!

Here's a better image anyway.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Oh well.... it's from Howl's Moving Castle. Miyazaki is worth looking into, even for those that might dislike "Japanese animation".

Here's one...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Don't be so hard on anima; some are truly magical!

ET PHONE HOME!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

It's not just the anime look I dislike; the stories also don't do a thing for me - what I've seen struck me as sentimental. My favourite animation is Tim Burton's and Aardman's stop motion stuff, much more textural and tactile, and more humorous. - Each to his own!

No idea about your pic, Clairabelle - I don't even recognise the actress.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Japanese fimmakers view animation much differently than western filmmakers and audiences do. Like anything else there is tremendous diversity as well as quality within the genre.

I think I might hazily remember the movie Clairabelle but I have no idea what the title is.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Hey is that Audrey Hepburn? She looks like a nun so I'll guess ....... Song of Bernadette?!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Looks like it is Dyno's turn, but may I post?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Correct, dynomutt. It's Jennifer Jones in the lead.

Chris, Blade Runner!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Is that really Audrey Hepburn (no, not the one above me - higher up!)? I wouldn't recognise her from that photo!

The latest picture is from 'Blade Runner', I believe, although Rutger Hauer doesn't look his usual cool self...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

For some reason, I'm thinking "A Place in the Sun", but the guy doesn't really look like Montgomery Clift. I can't even remember who the woman was played by anyway!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Hint: Jennifer Jones, again!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

No takers? Here's another picture from same movie:

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

The guy looks like William Holden - something with a "little tea house"?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

William Holden and Jennifer Jones? Gotta be The Towering Inferno then! ;o)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Minnie has it! You're up, dudette!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Can't post any freeze frames - someone else go ahead a fun game.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

My turn! ;-)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

The Others....... Boo!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Oooh, The Others is a good one.
Now what are Hermione, Ron and Harry Potter up to now?? lol

Here's someone you'll recognize... but from which movie?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Klute?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

How about this image from one of the AFIs 100 best American Films? (not all of which are American, btw)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

It Happened One Night

 o
RE: Freeze frame game!!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Could that be "The Princess Bride?"

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Here's a fiendish one for you. This woman is not an actress, and as far as I know this is her only cameo in a film, although she also made a guest appearance in my favourite tv series. Who is she, what is her other major contribution to a movie, and what film is the photo from?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You were right about Klute, anyanka, but you've got me on this one!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Would that be Elaine May?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Erin Brokovich? The real-life EB played a cameo as a waitress in the movie of the same name.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

No, sorry! I'll give you another picture clue - this one is from a movie in which she did not appear in person, although she is 'present' throughout.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

That's Magnolia, but the woman - ?? the director?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ok, after some research, my guess is that the woman is Joanne Sellar, the producer of three of PT Anderson's movies. ??

(Of course, she could be the makeup artist for all I know! ;-) )

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

'Magnolia' is correct, but she's not the producer or the make-up artist. Here's another clue with a big giveaway in the picture. This one is from her guest appearance in my favourite tv show. The one I take my name from.

 o
Try again...

First it worked, and now it doesn't... trying a different picture source for the same image:

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I have no idea who that is

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

No clue as well...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

no clue here either "This one is from her guest appearance in my favourite tv show. The one I take my name from" that's no clue either what show would that be?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

The TV show is, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While I've seen every episode at least twice, I don't remember this character. Sorry, Anya. Too obscure for me.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

She appeared as herself - the big clue is the microphone and guitar, which gives you an idea of her type of involvement with Magnolia.

In the tiny cameo in the first photo, she was minus a toe, which had been posted to a wheelchair-bound man as proof of a faked abduction.

[That should do it...]

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

still no idea...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

me either...I'll have to watch Magnolia again, been meaning to anyhoooo

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

This isn't actually in the movie, just a promotional image. It illustrates the whole toe concept nicely, though.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ok, so it's The Big Lebowski. I had to look up the woman's name in the trivia...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Dude! Where's My POPCORN? :D

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Life is Beautiful

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Right back atcha!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Easy. LADRI DI BIBICLETTE (The Bicycle Thieves), another little Italian gem.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

one of Clairabelle's favs... The Door in the Floor

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Oops, I'd better give you the actual answers to my fiendish quiz - not that anyone's interested...

The woman is Aimee Mann, one of your finest singer-songwriters. The film Magnolia was inspired by her songs, and the script was written around them to some extent. They also make up most of the soundtrack. - That was really the important part of my poser. The other film connection is for serious addicts only; I became one of those after watching Magnolia, loving the soundtrack, and subsequently buying all of Mann's albums.

She appeared as herself in series 7 of Buffy, performing the song Pavlov's Bell, and had a tiny dishevelled cameo appearance in The Big Lebowski, playing the nihilist's girlfriend, minus a toe.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

here's one

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

That's easy -- that's got to be Sin City!

(I'll post one in a minute once I find something suitable)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

This one's VERY easy ........

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Harvey Keitel, et all, in Reservoir Dogs (the movie that ruined the song 'Stuck in the Middle with You' for me ;-/)

how about this!? ;-D

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Is that one from The Mask, the Jim Carey movie?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I think you got it right clairabelle ....

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

yep, Milo the hero, donning the mask, lol!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Alrighty!

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Fanny and Alexander?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

nope

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

No takers? Here's another pix from same movie.

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I think it's Babette's Feast

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

And Paula wins the chocolate-covered chicken! :D

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I'd like to put some chocolate on this guy...lol
How about we do some of our hearthrobs!

From what movie?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

You have EXXXXXXXCELENT taste, paula!
By the earring, I would say "Swordfish".

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Who needs chocolate?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

lol, indeed, minnie !

 o
RE: Freeze frame game????

yes, Clairabelle, the earing'd Hugh in Swordfish is correct.

C'mon fans, who's your fav? :-D

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Howzabout

...I know he's taken but...

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ummmm ..... am I the only one who can't see the picture?

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Let me try that one again

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

I think he is like Sean Connery and gets better looking with age

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom -- he's on the rope bridge just before he chops the rope bridge and causes everyone (with the exception of himself, Short Round, and the singer-lady) to fall into the river full of crocodiles!

Is that specific enough? ;-) (I saw the movie again just a few weeks ago)

 o
RE: Freeze frame game?

Ain't he purrrdy? lol
Alrighty, dynomutt, who do YOU dream of?
