| I am mostly a rock/metal girl, but I like some of everything: country, some pop...
I listen to rock on XM at work all the time, and I really wish I could hear more dijeridu, accordion, and violin on the radio. I guess I am craving something different. Any suggestions? |
Follow-Up Postings:

| Early Jethro Tull had a bit of violin on it. Kansas, too. Lots of Mexican folk music has accordion. So does much early Weird Al Yankovic. I can't think of any popular music with didgeridoo on it. |
|
| There was an Australian band in the 80s called Goanna that had some didgeridoo, also an indigenous band called Yothu Yindi that used it a lot. Celtic bands like the Corrs have a lot of fiddle playing. |

| I should have added some links: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=KV_0Mf9YcyA for Goanna http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=S7cbkxn4G8U Treaty by Yothu Yindi http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ-hbpWlXNQ Tribal Voice by Yothu Yindi |

| Old standby Neutral Milk Hotel uses an eclectic collection of instruments. If you'd like to try something psychedelic listen to their 1998 disk In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Beirut (Zach Condon) plays lots of horns, violin, farfisa organ, accordion, piano, ukelele, mandolin, and a bunch of other stuff on Gulag Orkestar... dunno if it's your kind of thing but check out Sunday Smile or Elephant Gun on You Tube. Arcade Fire also has a lot of interesting instrumentation. Lots of Hurdy Gurdy and other oddball stuff... they also all exchange/trade instruments at different times during their shows. Laika is an interesting tune. These are all kind of unusual "indie pop" type bands. |

| Hows about that? Rock Digeridoo and Violin. Probably an accordian in there somewhere too. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2703860687818710274 Shame it's rather poor quality. |

| Buckwheat zydeco used an accordian often. The stones and beatles used violins on some great songs like eleanor rigby, and shes a rainbow. We can work it out by the beatles featured an accordian and the stones used one on backstreet girl.Aerosmith has used an accordian on some fairly recent tracks.Violin was featured on dust in the wind by kansas. |

| Violin was used by Jefferson Airplane back around '72 when Papa John Creach was featured on "Milk Train" and a couple of others, I believe. Papa John also picked up airplay with his tune "Filthy Funky". I have to say I hated when John Mellencamp added violin The one thing I hate to hear on a recording is a kazoo. |

| One of rocks coolest lps is the rolling stones much maligned lp called their satanic majesties request.I love this underrated gem of an lp or cd.It seems like the late brian jones played every single instrument ever on this lp.They even used a glockenspiel on citadel. |
