I certainly know of he and one or two of his projects,my mother had some old records of his that were in very bad condition when i first saw them.He was a contemporary of guys like george burns, alot of time has passed since their heyday.I know his work is mentioned in some music history books.

I got it after listening - he had a very distinctive voice.

Amazing that there is nothing to commemorate him. He was also in the first "talkie" movie. I think his most famous song is Swanee River. NOBODY sang it like him!

I'm familiar with Al Jolson mainly because of all the references to and parodies of him on the old Warner Brothers cartoons I used to see as a kid. I love the one entitled "I Love to Sing-a" with the little bug-eyed "Owl Jolson" who insisted on singing "jazz" when the rest of his family played the classics. (WB cartoons were also my introduction to classical music.)
