Anybody want to play? List 5 (okay it's tough, but you can add more) songs you can't live without, artist, the genre, and why you can't live without them.

Looking forward to what everybody posts!

1. Save That Time by Russ Long. (Jazz) Simple but perfect. Makes me cry everytime.

2. Sun Song by Pharoah Sanders. (Jazz) Brilliant and unusual vocals, makes me feel all is alright on our planet.

3. Big Country by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. (Bluegrass)Because Bela's playing redefined the banjo from a backwoods hillbilly instrument.

4. Last Train Home by Pat Metheny. (Jazz) Captures the nuance of traveling by train.

5. Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band. (Rock) Awe-inspiring guitar by Dicky Betts and impressive, fun keyboard work.

Wonderful choices, y'all!

1. DeBussy's Clair de Lune. Every time I hear it, it's like music to my soul, I imagine it's the music that plays as we watch angels descent from heaven to escort us when we die... SERIOUSLY! :)
2. Imagine by John Lennon. Hearing it the first time was a life-altering experience for me.
3. Pick Up the Pieces - Average White Band. Ah, the memories, The Bump, the fancy shmancy bar drinks...
4. Barber's Adagio for Strings is also another piece that moves me more than words for some reason. No particular memory or event attached to it, but it just gets me (like #1)
5. ANYTHING by Steely Dan, but if I had to name just one, yikes! -- I'd sayyyyyyyyy Kid Charlemagne

This is a great thread!!
Come on people! Take the time, give it some thought.
Since we are all music-lovers, this should be one that everyone is posting to!
Just my 2 cents!!
Plus, I'm curious/interested in what songs are important in people's lives.

Oh my gosh, I could name at least 100 songs but here are 7 that immediately come to mind this afternoon:

1. 1000 Candle, 1000 Cranes - Rich Prezioso of Small Potatoes. This antiwar song even brought tears to the eyes of my VERY VERY conservative retired military father.

2. The Waltz of the Wallflowers - Jackie Manning of Small Potatoes. A sweet funny song that just make me feel good every time I hear it.
U-tube video of Small Potatoes performing the two songs above can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6adyTwCIIBc

3. In My Eyes - Tim Henderson. This love song for grownups always restores my faith in the concept of forever love. Can't find a performance link but the words are here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:GdD02tvXCywJ:www. myspace.com/timhendersoncoal/blog

4. From His Window - JohnSmith. A song that will deeply touch anyone with elderly parents or a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's. You can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQR46giL1co

5. The Kids Are Back - Richard Berman. Another song that always makes me chuckle...and it is just TOOO true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68nHo_Fwd5A

6. The Randall Knife - Guy Clark. This song just sends shivers down my back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY5MOUO464Q

7. Don't Laugh at Me - Allen Shamblin and Steve Seskind (sung by Mark Wills). Anti-bullying song that says it all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVjbo8dW9c8

BTW - I'm a newbie to this music forum so I hope nobody minds me putting in the links.
