I'm sorry to hear this. I really liked her. In her series on Rome, she made Julius Caesar so great and appealing that I was pulling for him not to die on the Ides of March.
The only book of hers I read was the Ladies of Missalonghi (not sure of the spelling but I think I got it right). I read it a number of years ago and liked it but never got around to reading any of her other books
I read the obit and smiled at "dingo bits" which is a polite version of the Aussie expression! She boasted of her excellent memory in an interview which I saw but this caused her a problem when "The Ladies..." was published as readers noticed a strong resemblance to another author's novel, which she must have recalled without realising. She was very upset as she had written the book for her mother. She was a few weeks younger than I am....and had done so much (Sigh!)
There is a big fuss going on about the one in The Australian which apparently marveled that she managed to write such popular novels despite not being herself a beauty.
