Oh wow, that's freaky! I saw the headlines, but not having an interest in reading faster, I didn't pay much attention. I did try it out, and it is certainly easy. Even at 500 words a minute it didn't feel forced or too fast.

I agree, I'd never want to read for pleasure with it, but for other things, it might fit the bill.

I'd read an article somewhere (Oh, this 50+ brain! It would be lovely if I could remember which magazine) that suggested we use the same areas of our brain when we read as when we use a map or learn our way around a place physically. This would explain why I don't like e-readers very much (I never know where I am, and find it difficult to skim back when need be), and why I can usually recall where certain parts of the story are within the book -- for example, I can tell you that the murderer shows up about a third of the way through the book, on the right hand side, near the top of the page. Reading using Spritz would be quite different. It would be like reading adrift, I think.
