Yes, I agree. Roman numerals are a useful bit of knowledge to have in our brains. My seven-year-old has intro to geometry in first grade. I do not doubt their capacity to learn the advanced ideas, but I wonder what those students are not learning to make room for all of this more advanced material. It's not inaccurate, I agree. Just hugely cumbersome to have to subtract 10 from 50 then add it back on again, when you can simply add 50 - the way I was taught to do at university. No wonder the world converted to Arabic Numerals - probably with very great joy - when they found the system. Dido

There's a sentiment among a few posters in this forum that what you display in your own home must somehow pass the "will this trigger a guest?" test or something. My home is kitted out for those of us who live in the home. It's for our enjoyment, reflecting our needs and our tastes, because we are inside of it for the better part of our days, and we paid for it. On occasion when guests come over (when there's not a pandemic happening, that is), we will certainly strive to make them as welcome and comfortable as is within our control, but that does not include worrying that they're going to be butthurt because they see something that tells them what time it is. I would find it less couth for someone to whip out a phone to check time than I would to have their eyes land on a flippin clock on the wall. Entirely too many erroneous assumptions made about how others "should" live in this, a decorating forum, at times.
