There is a new television series based on the Outlander books. You have to have access to the Starz network to see it. However, the first episode is available online at this point. Here is the link:

I'm planning to watch it. My husband said he saw an ad for it on one of the cable channels, not Starz. Here's hoping he can remember (or find) which one it was.

They are all available in ereader form, I loved Outlander... In fact Diana herself on her website has put some of them up for free download. It benefits her because once you are hooked you have to have them all. There's quite a lot of them now. I posted not too long ago about one of her books on for like 99c. Do searches on amazon and Google for the outlander ebook series, here's the entire 7 book set in Kindle format. This version of Poldark was much better than the original one which I watched some years ago - perhaps it's the brooding intensity of Aidan Turner. They are now filming season 2 and the BBC stated that Poldark might be the long running drama they're seeking as a replacement for Downton Abbey. There are 12 novels in Winston Graham's Cornwall series covering the years 1783 to 1820. No air date set yet but they hinted maybe spring 2016. Outlander is also filming and just switched locations. Ron Moore did a Q&A last week and said while he's not in charge of scheduling that we should anticipate late March or April 2016.

This post is depressing! Now I have to add more books to my already-large collection of books waiting to be read! I love the Outlander series on Starz!! I usually buy my books from abebooks.com - I notice they have "Outlander" published in 2001...and they also have "Outlander (Starz Tie-in Edition)" published in 2014. Is anyone familiar with the tie-in edition? I wonder if it would be better than the original? Really confused here.

Some have the opposite perspective, arcy. Watching a screen production of the story in a book previously read is similar to rereading that book. For this new Reacher series, just like with the Bosch series, a good portion of the audience will be fans of the author who've read the book or books and await seeing an on-screen portrayal of the characters who previously only appeared as mental images. That's what happened when there was media coverage of disappointed loyal Reacher book fans with having short Tom Cruise cast as Reacher for the movies. And why because of that care was taken for the Amazon production to be sure that the actor playing Reacher better fulfilled readers' expectations. I read that because that actor (who I think is excellent in the role) is only 6'2", other actors in the cast were explicitly picked because of their being below average in height. That and judicious camera angles make Reacher look taller. Attention to detail, mission accomplished. As for familiarity with the character and stories, this first Reacher "series" is based on Childs' first Reacher book, Killing Floor. I've read every book released in the Reacher series and have reread many of them. As it happens, I've read Killing Floor three times and having done so enhances my enjoyment of the Amazon production. Others may feel differently.

We got pay TV especially to watch this :)
I have been following the filming and it looks like it will be very good. The producer, Ron Moore, says his wife (who is the costume designer for the series) is a huge fan and his main concern is to get it right so he isn't in trouble.
Diana Gabaldon has also had more input than usual for an author.

I read the first of the series and really enjoyed it but couldn't get into comitting to the rest of it.

Yet the HP series was addictive start to finish.

The Maisie Dobbs series was another addictive pleasure.

I would have to say that it's not the idea of a series that put me off....maybe I just got weary of all the burning loins and heaving breasts !!

I got annoyed with it after a while. The way she started the book with the husband telling his wife about the scotsman looking at her through a window made me think the author was going to cycle back to it, but by the time the third book came along and it was obvious she was going to make this a very long series, I got bored and never went back.

And, yoyobon, I'm with you; I got tired of the burning loins etc. LOL
