Do you have a saying which makes you smirk?

Recently I heard someone remark : " He's all hat and no cattle."
I love that !
What a great alternative to " He's all talk."
(or she )

Do you have a favorite ?

I have one or two to share.

"All flash and no dash." (all talk and no action.)

"Suck it up, buttercup." (quite whining)

"All fur coat and no knickers"- everything for show, lacking in fundamentals.

I like that one, Colleen.

I've heard "All hat (or boots) and no cowboy."

RE: OT.........It says it all !

From WW II: "He's as full of it as a Christmas turkey."

"She's done up like a dog's dinner." (English). A southerner would say "She's all gussied up."

One of my favorites is 'nice house - nobody home' for someone who looks good, but is not too bright.

Another I heard for the first time when I went away to school: 'Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna go eat worms!' Just the right phrase for some people I know! Apparently there's a little tune that goes along with it too,

donnamaire......

Here's a virtual keyboard so that you can play that tune and hear it !!

Play these keys:

C1 , C1, C1, A , G
C1 , C1, C1, C1, A, G
C1 , C1, C1, B, C1 , D1

Isn't technology amazing !?

Here is a link that might be useful: virtual piano keyboard

That keyboard's cool, yoyobon, but we must have a different tune here :-) Ours goes
A A A F F Nobody likes me
A A A A F F Everybody hates me
A A Bb A G, Think I'll go and eat worms,
G G E E E Big fat fuzzy ones
G G G E E E Long skinny hairy ones
C1 C1 Bb Bb G A, The kind that squiggle and squirm,
A A F F Bite their heads off
A A F F Suck their blood out
A A Bb A G, Throw the bones away,
G G G E E Nobody knows just
G G E E How I live on
C1 C1 Bb A G. Worms three times a day.

:-D

"One of my favorites is 'nice house - nobody home' for someone who looks good, but is not too bright." This reminds me of "body by Nautilus, brains by Mattel" :-)

I have heard "Champagne taste on a beer budget" for people who enjoy the finer things in life but don't want to work for them.

And I didn't know that last verse of the Worms song either!!

RE: OT.........It says it all !

My mother's favourite is 'Sh*t and fall back in it' which I find useful on many occasions.
Australia has a lot of these kinds of sayings, a lot of them mostly lost now.
As for the worm song, I have the same tune as Colleen, but slightly different words:

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,
Think I'll go and eat worms.
Big fat juicy ones, long thin skinny ones
See them wiggle and squirm.
Bite their heads off, suck their guts out
Throw their skins away
Nobody knows how well I live
On worms three times a day.

RE: OT.........It says it all !

"It's better than being stabbed in the back with a bunch of watercress" was said by my Father if we children complained/moaned about something.

RE: OT.........It says it all !

My Day always said " It's better than a stick in the eye !"

Good old Italian saying : " Don't pee in the well where you get your water."

And one of my personal favorites : " Don't stir a turd." ( don't start trouble)
